95 Runner Front Badass Bumper Build

This is the bumper I have been working on for about the last 6 or so weekends. The original was starting to get the typical rust on it and so had started looking at my options when I came across BanditRunner's 3rd gen build. So I think I owe him some props and hope he doesnt mind for that matter i hope shrockworks and ARB are ok with it too. Anyway on to the build....

One of the toughest parts of this build was figuring out how to mount the bumper so I could figure out a starting point and so with a little online ``research`` this is what I cam up with... half inch plate with recovery lugs built in...

after that i decided it might be easier to get my idea in 3d so i thought a cardboard template might work well lots of trial and error as i did all of this on-the-fly because i didnt have access to CAD or anything

time to start building it out of steel...

on a side note i picked up some toys...piaa 510 fog lights and LED signal lights!

progress...

somethings just not right with it at this point...

so i modified the angle of the lower middle plate and the side angles to make it a little more aggressive...

then i made the elyptical cut outs for the fog light housings...

and then I turned some thick wall pipe into thin wall pipe on the lathe...

fit up the housings

all welded and ground...

a look at the inside

all shiny and mocked up with the lights

made some brachets for the fog lights...

i also thought a bull bar was neccessary

primed..

DONE!!!

finishing touch...

Ok so it would seem, that this build only took a little longer than the amount of time it takes to post this thread, not true!
I have spent the better part of almost every weekend and some late nights after work for about the last 7 weeks. Granted there was a lot of head scratching going on with trial and error on-the-fly desiging lol! Above all though THE biggest pain in my ass on this whole build was the wiring of the damn fog lights almost 7 hours and no success! A good nights sleep some more research and 2 hours and he said let there be light!

I am currently trying to convince one of the drafting guys at work to mock this up in solid works 3D...

Thats it, I'm suing! It looks too much like mine. jk.

It looks great. Glad I could inspire you and others.

Its funny that you use the word "Badass" in your title, because around my house I always refer to my truck as "Project Badass" in a joking manner with the wife and kids.

Hahaha! Thanks Bandit! Working off the inspiration of others isn't copying...lol. Thats funny about the badass thing. Just seemed right to call it that.
You really do inspire though, and as a Journeyman welder I can see that you have some serious skills man! Keep it up
the work you do is top notch!

Do you have plans to ever add a winch inside the bumper? Could it be easily added?

yes I do have plans to add a winch I just ran out of the almighty buck... i found a warn winch that I like and found the basic measurements online and made the bumper taking that into account. So it should fit. I'll just add a mounting plate between the bumper mount plates. Of course i'll have to cut a hole for the hook and grind off the paint where i'll be welding and repaint but thats all part of the plan...

BUT... I think I am going to get the rear fender rust taken care of first so I can build the rear bumper to match the front... and so my runner doesnt get eaten by truck cancer...

yeah sucks waiting on parts. I had a 2 week hiatus waiting for the jobber I hired to bend my bull bar. The joker said 3 days turn-around then went away for 2 weeks holiday! I was so pissed! I took my unbent pipe back, called him a douche, and used a hydraulic shop we use at my work to get it done the same day!

Dang, thats what i should of used or 10 guage plate. I got a killer deal on some 1/8 plate so mine may be a little bit more thinner but i plan on bracing it. Just hope i dont warpe it with the heat. Time will tell i guess.
