here's the main frame mounted, but not yet cut to fit. I still need to cut the departure angles on each side.

Are those sitting on the outside or inside of the frame?

Just wondering but why did you decide to make it stick out so far? My thinking was make it as tight up against the truck as possible for the best possible departure angle, but everyone has different motivations for sure.

I still have to add one more brace to the inside of the frame, but the weather got a bit windy and rain comming, so If I don't work tomorrow, I'll get more done.

I'm going to use the stock upper plastic cover from the old bumper, so I needed to make it fit. As for departure angle, it'll have plenty.........

I gotcha! That's definitely going to be a nice clean look. Miy hitch tube, just for comparison is roughly 1.5" below the latch for the door if I'm not mistaken, and with my tubing only being 2" in height, my departure angle is really good, which was my main goal, not to mention being really strong.

The fun part is gonna be cutting the 5 square holes, so I can snap the cover in place. It has a slight curve to it, but it'll flex straight no problem at all and I'll need to cut out some of the bracing so the clips will fully lock into the thicker tubing. Being plastic, I'm not worried about when it flexes on the trail, so leaving clearance is no issue. I actually wanted my bumper further out from the body, so if I get near rock faces, it hits first. Tucking the bumper in, doesn't give much in the way of body protection, besides I like having that shelf, it's a good spot for my muddy boot to sit when taking them off after work.

Just make sure the sides aren't in too close..... another heads up.....

Yeah, my sides are going to be slightly wider than the limited fender flares to prevent them from getting ripped off, and to provide the little extra protection when rubbing up against rocks and trees.

Pics and more pics of it mounted!

Here's the latest pics of it mounted to the 4runner. Notice how tight up against the truck it is. But, in case your wondering the closest point to any place on the truck is a little less than 1" in any direction, which should allow for any flex of the frame. Here's the pics:

Ok, I couldn't get much done, it was quite windy

But I did manage to get my side layout the way I wanted them. Working with compound angles is a PITA.....

I didn't get a chance to get much done today, I was helping HungryStu install his electric fan conversion.

To deal with the 1" gap in the bumper, I found some weather stripping that will work. I'll post more once it arrives and I test it out. Not only will it provide a cleaner look, but will help prevent body damage if the bumper flexes against it.

Thanks for taking the time to show me how to do that whole install. Works like it should. Exactly opposite from what I was on track for. That was the fastest I've ever seen anyone pull a starter and rebuilt it too. What, like 20 minutes flat. Couldnt have done it without me huh. Thanks dude.

I'm just an amateur at this...but are those support pieces just majorly notched, or is that my imagination? Seems like there are HUGE strength issues with this design...
