Nice job on the bumper/carrier. I am now considering the same design for my 89 when I get that far in it's build...

If your serious, I'll PM you some time as that's pretty much the exact rear bumper setup I want.

Got the latch yesterday and got motivated.

Then I got motivated and decided I hated the blue hard top. Oh, and I mounted and wired in the backup light to the reverse lights. Works killer.

Not to resurrect an old thread here, but did you cut the spindle length to fit the bumper body tube diameter so there wouldn't be a big ol' honkin piece of spindle hanging below the bumper body?

Plus it needs to be resurrected because the bumper is freaking awesome

Yes, i did. That bumper honestly sucked. One of the reason I hate swing outs. It allowed way too much movement of the tire. It needed to be dual sheer on both sides.

FWIW, I would never build one like that again. Our current designs are much more refined and stronger. We just finished one for a 3rd gen last week. I can post some pics in a few.

Good looking bumper you got there... Why the move away from the latch to the pin type locking mechanism? And it looks quite a bit stronger that way, not allowing any of the torquing force from the swing away arm to really reach the spindle. Thanks for the pics

Single sheer vs. dual sheer. The dual sheer is just stronger.
