Weird Mods to the precious 4Runner
I may be new at the whole forum thing, and this probably random; but has anyone ever heard of putting a Scion tC head on the infamous 22-RE engine? If so, can you bear the knowledge of such abnormal concoction?

I was wondering what makes you think that this would be remotely possible??? The stock bore of a 22re is 92mm and stroke is 89mm. The Tc is 88mm bore and 96mm stroke. I believe you would have to do some serious machining to the head to get it to fit. Not to mention whether all of the passage line up, the length of the head being the same, the bolt holes matching up, etc... I don't know for sure but I would bet it doesn't fit without machining. If the head did fit, then what would you do for your intake? is the exhaust ports and intake ports on the correct side for a 22RE??

why in all seriousness?.... why? .. since you'd have to be a machining god to make that head fit.... you might as well make up a bellhousing adapter and mount that horrible scion TuRD of an engine to your w56 or r151f

Please gentlemen, cut me some slack. I was merely getting a second opinion from fellow Yota connoisseurs such as yourselves. A classmate told me he had done this mod to his 22-R. Of course I myself didn't have much faith in his embellishment, so I turned to "the experts" as it were, to see if it were possible. GREAT responses by the way, it really proved my point.
Thanks.
Thanks.

newer scion motor is a toyota VVT-i, 2AZ-FE, 2.4l, 155hp 158lbft. would probly be a good upgrade from a 22re. plus it has plenty of upgrades to get 200hp+

That's a 20r head on a 22r not on a 22re. They don't make an 83-84(and early 85) 22re. Not that I've seen anyway. And before anyone says it a 22re in an 85 truck is an 86 engine.
Unless someone can prove me wrong.

'85 was the first year for the 22re in trucks/4runners, XXX. Prove you wrong? GIJunk85 or whatever his screen name is has an '85 22re with an auto tranny
Also, an early 22re was available in the Celica starting in the middle of '82 (August I believe?) using mechanical and vacuum actuated parts (Timing advance. I think the fuel pump may have been mechanical, too?)

As far as I know the 22re in the 85's didn't hit till later in the model year making them the incompatible block to the 20r head. Not sure what to think with the Celicas though. But I don't think any of those 22R-EC engines from the Celicas made it into any of the trucks.
EDIT:
The first fuel injected 22R-E engines appeared in August 1982.
Output of these engines is commonly rated at 105 hp (78 kW) at 4,800 rpm and 137 ft·lbf (185 N·m) at 2,800 rpm.
In 1985, the engine was significantly reworked, output was up to 112 hp (84 kW) at 4,600 rpm and 142 ft·lbf (192 N·m) at 3,400 rpm. Many parts from the newer 22R-E are not compatible with those from the older pre-1985 engine. Non-compatible parts include the cylinder head, block, pistons and many of the associated parts such as the timing chain and cover, and water and oil pumps (although the oil pump internals are the same). These changes also affected the 22R, therefore one can consider the 85-95 22R-E as a fuel injected version of the 85-90 22R with only minor differences if any.
