The lady and I are thinking about heading up to payson and camping for a night just to get out of town for a little bit...Anyone know good places up there for mild wheeling/camping?

 

Yes. I know of many good spots.

Try this - there is a short 4x4 section of trail, otherwise 4wheeling is limited here. I'd consider it more of a good weekend camp area to get away from it all.

Locate Young, AZ on the map (preferably a good TOPO map that has 4x4 roads)
Take FR129/Big Walnut Rd. west, then you will take FR134 south until you hit FR484. This road ends at Spring Creek. There are 2-3 real nice camp spots here under some large sycamore trees. The creek usually has a good amount of water as well.

FR484 is a 4x4 road. It is suitable for a stock Toyota 4x4, no problem.
