No progress on the website, want to know how the hosting will go before I do much else, especially if we have a BB. Also, if anybody can do better than MSFrontpage I can yield webmastering to a superior HTML genius.

I'll defer to your MSFrontpage skills. I think you've done a great job with the design. Should we register the VAROC.com or VAROC.org or VAROC.net domain(s)? Regarding hosting, do you know of any inexpensive and dependable servers to host our site? I'll also check with a couple of friends with their own personal website to see which company they're using.

I just set up a subdomain to play with but the servers are really slow just now, you'll notice most of my graphics here are missing. Might just do a basic main page and see what evolves. We can get va4roc.com, .org , .net. Would be pretty cheap. I get my domains here... http://www.domainsnext.com/

For hosting it depends on what we want the site to do, we should probably have the group put together a bit before we commit to a host, I can't see the point of hosting a BB when we have the chapter listed here at Yota tech. I think we can set up a good internet presence for free until we reach critical mass, just something to get us started.

Saturday night I have no plans, just throwing that out in case anybody was up for IRL. Roadrunner do you know TT reynolds in Old town fairfax? I'm just across 66 in Oakton.

Boo. No worries, it's unlikely all VA people will make every get together. I kinda like the idea of keeping things informal, seems more friendly when our official connection is not as major as personal interaction. For example, I have already met 4x4kajo and mayday (sean m) in person and I think it makes for a more sincere relationship when it's not rigidly official. Definitely want to build the connection to the central theme, but would love to see what each group can come up with.

 

SAturday night could work. Maybe meet somewhere alittle farther east, chantilly or somethin. just cause its quite a haul to begin with

 

I can also get together for a little bit. My wife was a rare Saturday evening off, but I can stop by. Earlier the better for me.

 

Do you think I should send around a PM to the VA 4Runners to get member names, nicknames, addresses/phonr numbers, and 4Runner info? Contact info you be for our own use and eventually we could post photos of member's rigs.

 

Technically I'm not in charge of anything, but If you could that would help a lot, I had considered doing it but I'm taking the foreign service exam on tuesday and I need to drop everything until that's out of the way. It would appear we are the only 2 who are still posting on this project. Not much visibility here for new members, but fine for existing ones I suppose.

One thing we should consider is that the website will be in public domain so we shouldn't publish all our members details, maybe just contact info but not full address. We could then have people subscribe to a weekly/monthly email list. Photo's would be cool, so at least it would be easier to recognize someone the first time they show up at a get together.

Anything you care to do would help out, it appears we have already lost momentum across the board for 4roc. Maybe we can pull a core team of VA members together, really just to help each other out. Dunno about everyone else, but I'm not looking to make a big complicated officially chartered legal entity or anything, don't need stickers or officers. Just wanna mess with trucks.

Good luck on the Foreign Service Exam.

The forms I'm generating would be for club use only, not for public distribution. I have one form done, a draft contact and vehicle info form in Word format. I'm trying to figure out how to post it here. I can only scan it as a PDF or TIFF, neither format can be posted here.

 

Can't you convert a tiff to jpeg or gif after you scan it?

I converted it to a jpeg, now it exceeds the 50,000 byte limit. I'll figure it out.

 

So, did we ever come up with a day to try and get some sort of meeting goin on. I'm pretty mmuch open, gonna be gone this weekend but around the rest of the time.

 

Not yet. I think today is dajabr's Foreign Service Exam, so we wanted to wait until the exam was done. Also, I think weekends are out for mtnbkr due to commitments.

I'll post a new thread for a weeknight meeting. A couple of drinks, food and checkout each others 4Runners.

 

Actually it's next tuesday, am finishing up some non-critical stuff and setting them aside until after. Website is updated, http://dbtestsite.tripod.com nothing further will be done until next week but feel free to send me suggestions and contact info to be added later.

I'd be up for a weeknight meeting this week to get out of the house, going to lock myself up at home wednesday and friday to review.

Although you're free to do whatever you want, I'm trying to get all of the 4ROC people to use their state 4ROC logo as their personal avatar. If alot of us start using it, all our posts will have it, and people will feel left out if their not a member- this will help people realize this thing is actually going to happen, and not die out like it did the last time around.

I think that's a very good idea. I'd be happy to do so as long as I can return to personalized logos later when advertizing is not so critical. What do you think?
Speaking of logo, I'm still trying to get the original in .psd for VA. If David can throw in the "VA" to specifications I would appreciate using the original .psd for the custom version on our website.

 

I think once this takes off, a return to the ol' avatars is in order, for the next couple of months it might really help. All I did was save the bitmap off the web to make the avatar- I can work one up real quick for you if you'd like.
