v8 conversion help

v8 conversion help

I own a 1988 Toyota 4runner and the motor went out in it I am really interested in putting a v8 in it. I have a 99 Chevy with a 305 vortex in it and a bad tranny what all would I have to do to make the 305 go in my Toyota

IMO, sell that motor and put in a 3.4. way more cut and dry and you dont gotta swap your drive train (if you have a V6 3.0 that is)

Oh dude lol night and day difference. i know its only.4 liter more displacement but it is seriously night and day. you can smoke ricer's with some good mods dude. 190 hp and 224 ft lb's torque. i know what you mean about the 3.0 being slow. i swapped mine out for the 3.4 and its so much better. its not a difficult swap at all. plus if you need help you can ask me or any of the admins on here to help. I did everything myself, didn't buy any "kits" or anything, made my own crossover and converted my own harness (which isn't bad if you have the electrical wiring diagrams from your donor truck and the recipient). I got the complete motor with everything on it including the cross over and down pipe and ECU for 1200 bucks. you can check out my link to my thread below.

I put a 350 Chevy crate motor in my 85' extra cab when the motor whent out on it. It was fun to drive on the weekends but rediculous as a daily driver, especially with fuel prices where they are now. You really shouldn't even consider keeping any of the toyota drivetrain if you go with a v8. It just can't handle the power. I used an NV4500 transmission out of a 1ton Chevy. If I were to do a motor swap again I would go with the one I have in my 4runner - 1KZ-te 3.0 turbo diesel or what Austin Marr suggested. The 3.4 is a great motor with plenty of power for a light truck in any configuration. I love my 1KZ-te but the electrical was a lot of work. Good luck on your decision.

^^ I have a 350 in my 82 and love the power, but mine is a toy only with all chevy running gear. The 3.4 from what I hear has lots of power and way better fuel mileage. I used to daily drive mine 2 miles each way to work with toyota running gear and would only get 7-9 mpg and break parts.
