Post 4ROCtoberfest 03

David Kevin & Mark, I could start looking into this if you think I should. I could get FS maps from the FS in Leavenworth. Or is there a way to get that info online?

Just tossing this out...

You do realize that since Leavenworth is a "Bavarian" town, Octoberfest is a very big deal over there and most of the month of October it is an utter mad house... right? I used to go every year, but got tired of sold out hotels and campgrounds packed to the gills...

well maybe if we send out a big newsletter right now and get people to commit to it, we could get a head count and then try and get camping spot reservations right away? but i guess the question is if we would want to be there with all the hub bub goin on. or we could always call it 4roctoberfest and just have it in september?

Hmmm,

but 4ROCember doesn't quite have the same ring to it! I don't know guys, as much fun as it sounds, I think this might be better off waiting until next year when we're a bit more organized. We've had one meeting, still working on a website, and we're real close on the heels of yotajam. I'd vote for a more informal get together for folks to get together on a saturday to show off their rigs or whatever, but the jamboree might have to wait until next year. Actually, we might be able to wrap this idea into the Yotajam for next year, and become more involved in the planning/scheduling of that.

yeah kinda think that would be a better idea. maybe have one in the spring and one as part of yotajam? i really think we need to get the website together so that right after/while we're doing that, we can get the stickers made and everything, since its a good idea to have the website on the stickers. then have everybody "rejoin" so we know who is actually going to be active members and those who have puttered out on the idea. so i guess we're at kind of a stand still till then. hint hint mark. just joking. maybe i'll send out an email asking for anybody and everybody who knows anything about webdesign.

hey rickey have you figured out where we're gonna have this next meeting?

StoryR,
I'm not talking about our regular meeting (which you're supposed to come up with a location), but a big jamboree type thing in the fall. We need a location for the reg. meeting by the end of the week, so get cracking!

can you share a URL or do we have to go fishing for it?

There's a conversaiton going on in the general 4ROC forum (https://www.yotatech.com/forums/show...threadid=12655) where it looks liuke DenverBikeGuy is offering to supply hosting for dirt cheap. A couple of folks (myself being one) have had some specific questions about the flavor of hosting that he's looking to provide.

Right now, he's been giving the "right" answers to all the qrustions and It looks like this will be the way to go..

I have 5 other places on a list, but each of them has something "wrong" with it. Either there's no support for PHP or mailing lists, or they're expensive, or the bandwidth sucks, or there's no anon FTP access, or or or...

Dude, you pointed me to the thread! Did ya' read it?

denverbikeguy said
I'm only asking $4/mo per chapter to cover my costs and I will front the cost of the domain to put them all under, handle the server admin for everyone (they just upload pages), etc.
Compare that to the list I've whittled down to:
  • $18.95/month, $39 setup.
  • $195/year
  • $100/year, 100 email accts
  • $167.40/year, plus RealAudio/Video & Windows Media support for $15/month, SiteChat for $7/month
But each of those providers has something "wrong" with it (hence my not sharing their names right now).

Add $15/year to each one for a domain registration as well.

DBG (DenverBikeGuy) is looking real good.

Mark,

Thanks for doing the homework on this. For the price, we couldn't go wrong (probably!). It would help with localization of the central 4ROC site. I haven't checked the other threads in a while, but will look at it today.

and this is what i was talking about for the stickers. it would be vinyl cut stickers. if we wanted we could have more than one color. but we do have other choices. this is just one example. my friend belongs to a subaru enthusiests club and this guy makes all the stickers for them. so i could hook us up with him once i finally get his phone number i'll find out how much it would cost and stuff once we decide how many colors we want to be on the stickers. also we can have different colors for everybody. i don't know if im making any sense or not, but if we wanted like one color sticker then we can get white ones made, blue, green, orange any color. ok im done rambling now.

sorry for the crappy picture but thats all i could get.

what happened to all 30 pelple on 4ROC? I'm afraid this is going to die out. We just need drag people out to trails, that's how i got hooked. =) Well if you people are out there, just say hi and leave your mark so that at least we know how many people are actually going to follow through with this membership. talk with no action is so stupid.

yeah really. once we get the website up we'll have everybody resign-up and then we'll see who is active and who isn't.
