hey all i am trying to plan a trip up to the rubicon (on the loon side) this sunday to try and get a snow wheeling trip in before it is all gone. if anyone is interested in going hit me up. supposed to be a storm rolling in this week so hopefully some extra snow but i know there is a god base right now of firm packed stuff.

My truck is a first gen with 37 MTR's winch locked rear and LSfront with dual cases FYI.

Guess that answers my question about the snow! But FWIW

I'm dying to see this place. Looks like the toughest/most beautiful terrain I've seen. We're looking to do another cold weather camping trip this Friday so I suggested the Rubicon.

I have been all around this area since December and it's of course packed in snow/ice above 6000ft. It's been 80deg down here at 1200ft so I was wondering if it's too early to attempt to even hit the base of the trail at Loon Lake? It's 91mi or 3hrs from my place. When will the trail be passable?

Anyone up for a camping trip/trail ride on 29 Mar?

Not scared of a lil snow!

I would love to go the 29th, but sadly we are hosting Easter this year, so that's going to be a no-go for me.

Let me know when you're next one is though, I want to hit the Rubicon one of these days.

well it was not cold up there sunday but i never made it to the rubicon. I was towing cause my rig is currently not street registered and there were signifigant drifts across the last four miles of wentworth springs before icehouse. parked the tow rig and drove up wentworth a little in the rig, the toyota had no problem with the icey heavy snow that was there, barely sunk.

it was 48 degrees by 9am and sunny. IF you are towing i would come up icehouse from the placer side. I would only come up the wentworth side if not towing and driving a rig with at least 33's and a winch etc.

just an fyi. not alot of snow but too much to tow through.

Hey, I'm in Gold River and totally down to meet up and learn about these trucks. I just bought a 90 22RE 4Runner with a 5spd today for $1450 and love it. It needs some work so if anyone knows how to do a timing chain install and suspension stuff I'm willing to pay and/or supply food/beer.

jmitchell79-
This may be a little late, but if you still need help with your timing chain install, let me know. I've done a few in my day, and would be glad to help another Yota lover out.

I'm out in Antelope, and have access to tools as well if that's an issue.

I know this thread is a little dated but I am looking to go up fordyce or the rubicon the weekend after Memorial Day weekend (May 30 and 31st) and looking for anyone else that has a like built rig that wants to go. I have a 83 on 37's locked and geared. Just don't want to go out alone.

I would love to go twistedyota, but sadly my vehicle is down for a rebuild right now, and won't likely be back up and running by then.

Good luck though, hopefully some other from the area will respond back.
