Question Winch question-warn m5000???

I can get my hands on a free Warn m5000 that was never used on a vehicle, it was used to pull a bulkhead in a pool; however, it was not used very long as they could not figure out a system to integrate it with. My question is would it be worth throwin on my truck? I know a 9500lb winch is optimum for our trucks and an 8000lb works very well too. I know its a couple thousand pounds under but its free and maybe I could use it until I could get a better winch? Thoughts? Opinions? Experiences? Throw 'em out there!

The only way you could use it is to double line pull EVERY time, and even then you'll probably burn it up in only a few uses.

For free? I'd say take it. Its better than not having anything, and it would even help in conjunction with a come-a-long or a tug from a buddy. Get yourself some snatch blocks as well.

I agree get some snatch blocks and run it until you can upgrade, you can sell it for a nice profit to go towards a better winch in the future as well.

Yeah I was thinking that it might burn up. I think I may grab it and try it out and if I get one use out of it, it was free and it saved me once lol I probably won't get it hooked up for a while since I'll need a front bumper and I'm in school right now and have no money. Or maybe I could sell it for a hundred bucks and put that towards a better winch.

You could drop it in as a rear winch.
