Where do I mount a hi-lift jack in my DD?
He guys, I'm very new to 4Runners. I just bought a 1999 with a lift and 33" tires and realized the stock jack won't reach should I need to change a tire.
I guess I need purchase a hi-lift jack and was wondering if I also need to purchase a rack/basket to mount it to, or can I mount it in the cargo area? I wouldn't want it to interfere too much with my/my wife's daily routine.
What do you guys recommend for a jack and mounting solution? Does that rack from Costco just mount to the factory rack? BTW, does anyone have a factory 3rd Gen rack to sell? What about fender flares?
Thanks in advance!
Darren

THE WAY IT SITS INSIDE ON THE WHEEL WELL HAS TO BE CUT TO FIT IT THEN YOU CUT THE REARS TO LEVEL IT OUT. IF YOU NOTICE IN THE SECOND PICK I STILL HAVE NOT WELDED THE FEET BACK ON I WAS JUST FITTING IT TO MAKE SURE IT WILL FIT CORRECTILY. ALSO YOU HAVE TO COME IN THRU THE REAR DOORS IT WILL NOT FIT ANY OTHER WAY TRUST ME ON THIS ONE WISH I HAD KNOW THAT GOING INTO IT WOULD HAVE SAVED ME ABOUT AN HOUR LOL ALSO YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE REAR SEAT BELT TILL YOU GET IT SET INTO PLACE WHERE YOU WANT IT JUST A FEW THINGS THAT WILL HELP SHOULD YOU CHOSE TO DO IT

ive used my stock jack to change my tires, and im running 315's. you dont need to lug around your hi-lift everyday.
and to use a hi-lift to lift up your runner, you'll need proper sliders. i wouldnt count on the chrome nerf bars supporting the weight of your runner on a hi-lift.
..use the stock jack until you get some sliders. then get a hi-lift.

What im probably gona do with my tacoma is the same thing a friend of mine did on his. Remove the lower plastic part of the factory bumper and rewire/relocate the turn signals then mount the highlift jack across the framerails. this gives you better ground clearance, a bomb-proof bumper, and a place to mount the jack
i guess the only downside is if you dont like the way it looks but hey you cant ask for everything

thats kinda nifty...unless thats the tire you've got to remove out on the trail, and the one hi-lift is the only lifting/stabilizing device available

maybe im not seeing it correctly but how are you gonna change out a tire if you're lifting your rig by that same wheel? even if you somehow managed to lift the rig up by the wheel like that and get the wheel off the lugs...now your rig is not supported at all. am i missing something?
also a stock jack will reach fine. itll fit under the rear axle tube no problem and under the lower a-arm in the front.

My 60" Hi-Lift mounted to my roll bar. I know it's an '86 but just showing you some mounting options..
