Just wondering if any of you guys/girls have used the ring and pinion set up from trail gear? Im probably going to go with yukon 5.29:1's but the TG's are like 80 bucks cheaper. Also the master kits. I know you get what you pay for, but I thought id ask.

thats what im runnin in my 4runner. iv heard good stuff about em, iv read on a couple other fourms that some of the tg ring and pinons are actually reboxed yukons. i think i even read a thread from chris geiger (i think thats how you spell his name) on the TG fourm stateing that they are yukons that are reboxed and sold as "CREEPER GEARS" i beleve. i bought the master kit along with my gears and the kit was pretty good, i think it came with koyo or nsk bearings. im sure some people will bash on em tho and say there a failure waiting to happen.. but thats why there are other suppliers.

 

I've never run TG's but from what i rear i'd say Yukon is the only way to go

And know that R&P is not where you wanna skimp out.

 

Sold dozens of them, run them in my trucks, no problems.

 

Me too tg gears in all my rigs its not so much the gears as its the setup

the guy that did my gear set up said that they seemed to be great quality.
I have about 1000 miles on them since they were set up, change the diff fluid out twice so far, no filings or anything out of ordinary on the diff plug magnet. get the solid pinion sleeve..

 

I have two sets of 5.29's sitting in my room. Does that count? ha

I plan on running them and not worrying one bit. My buddies run TG gears and no problems to date.

 

so if i was to run 35's on my yota with the 2.4L i should run 5.29 gears to get the most power. cause right now it has the stock 4.10's and it is gutless

 

anything will help you out. 4.88's or 5.29's. but i'd go 5.29's.

 

TG gears are just Yukon gears in a plain white box. Same part numbers and everything. Yukon gears are cut in Korea. When you open the TG box you will see a "K" on the gear right before a T-8 5.29 or a TV6-529. The K is a dead giveaway for Yukon, not to mention the identical part number minus the "YG" symbol.

FWIW, I have at least 100 sets installed and/or sold with zero issues to date. Their setup kits include Koyo, Nachi, or NTN bearings for the pinion bearings depending on the kit and all come with Timken carrier bearings. I have no issues with the install kits and/or gears.

I have run them in three of my personal vehicles.

this is very useful, i know its old so has anyones opinion changed? I'm doing the chromo axle shafts at the same time running a detroit locker the $100 difference is tempting especially if it is the same parts and quality bearings

 

Well I posted in this thread in August of 2009. I have pulled my rear third a few times since the install...They still look fine after numerous runs and the truck for all intense purposes I have been daily driving the truck for about the last 18 months or so.

The 5.29's with 35's are great, the speedo is fairly accurate too..
