Tire Chains for a 37"? Rec's?

Ideas guys?

I emailed tirechains.com. I saw what they had on the site for a 37 but not sure about that rubber tensioner or the cams, lil confusing.

Last set of chains i had were for my 31" i got from Les Schwab and i ended up breaking one up int he mtns on a nasty road. Overall I didn't like those style quick fit chains schwabs sell. Real weak links and they arent any faster to install, if anything more of a pain in the butt.

you could always make your own. Then they can be as strong as you want. Use some quick links for connectors and those un-fancy rubber straps as a tensioner and off you go!

question, whats the benefit of chains on a mud terrain? never really seen anyone use them. so im assuming same benefit as any other tire?

they most likely won't be used in a mud situation, more so in deep snow and ice where a MT won't have very good traction.

Chains work just as well in the mud as they do in the snow(if not better). Chains will take you WAY farther than your MTs will, even if they're boggers, mud or snow. As far as ice, there's nothing better than a good set of chains. Unless you put some serious tire studs on, not the kind they put on at the tire store BTW. I'm talking some that stick out further from the tire and in much higher numbers. Like they use for ice racing.

$84-$250 for a good pair(2 tires). Depending which you type want. And you DON'T want the cheap ass cable type.

tire chains wont knob off the tread on tires either? i wonder how much they are for my 33x10.50s

EDIT: In my previous post I intended to say that it didn't sound like chains were going to be used for mud in the praticular situation.

Mak92. If you have your chains on for a long time then they will wear your tires a bit where they contact. Constant rubbing is never a good thing. But just putting them on now and then won't cause any major issues.

lol hmm... i might have to look into this! are they much of a difference in snow/mud? Do they make a difference in sand?

Mud/snow, put a pair on the rear and you'll hardly ever need to shift into 4WD.

Sand, don't do it. Don't even do MTs. Anything that's going to dig is only gonna get you buried. Just air down and pray.

I ran Les Schwab chains on all 4's for a number of years and finally broke a cross link on one tire in the mountains.. they made a difference in most situations but i was never impressed.

Im holding off on buying a set as of right now, weathers holding out =P and im investing $ into the truggy instead... really need a front drive shaft more than i do chains but its all good to know anyway!

just pick up a set of cam locks from schwabs, with tensioners for $80. I have never had a problem with them, the cable type suck. These will fit a number of differant size tires, and are marked to fit 33x10.5x15

You may look into a set of chains from a Semi truck supply store, I have a buddy who gets used cam lock from trucking company here for dirt cheap, cut them down to what you need them to fit and your good to go..Should def fit a 37 with minimal trimming required
