I am new to the whole Toyota scene so please try to be nice....

I am looking to change the suspension in my '96 4Runner Limited. Based on my research, I have come up with the following as my best option.

Front:
Bilstein HD
'99 4Runner Coils

Rear:
Bilstein HD
OME 906

I do not need to raise the truck at all. I do not use it off road enough. The truck has enough clearance for the roads that I travel when camping, fishing. Basically what I am looking for is a little firmer ride.

Please let me know if I should be doing anything differently. Thanks in advance.

 

Everything you have listed sounds good. The Bilstein HD's WILL give you the firmer ride you desire, but not bone jarring.

 

Why change the coil springs at all then? Both of those springs you listed will lift your truck over your stock 96 springs. Why not install the Bilsteins first and then see how you like it?

 

the shocks are a good choice, but I'd stick with OE coils front and back... unless you need stiffer springs in the back for hauling/towing. If so, then the back of your rig might end up slightly higher than the front. If this is a concern, consider airbags - inflate them when you tow/haul to help the stock springs, deflate them when you're empty for a good ride.

I think I will just replace the shocks and see how it works out.

 

Downey makes a 20% or 30% stiffer no lift 3rd Gen rear coil.

Hey Neighbor. I'm just moved to Port Moody.

I had the Bilsteins in my last runner. Great shock. I got them from NSOR in North Vancouver. You might want to try Nevin at Destiantion Toyota on loughheed.

Check out this thread. There is a bunch of planning to get together to make run soon. Maybe even Eagle Ridge. They may be able to help you out too.
