rim protectors and beadlocks???
i am going to purchase new tires and wheels in september.
bf goodrich has put the krawler tread on a mud terrain carcass and am going to buy them.i am also purchasing some beadlock wheel for snow wheelin.
my question is has anyone run into a problem with the rim protector an the tires interfearing with the beadlocks?
thank you
steve

are identical to the krawlers but harder compound and are siped.
the blocks on those are a little small and the placement is a little different

Regarding beadlock wheels and rim protectors, I believe its more of a hyped up issue than anything. Not all wheels, and especially outer lips are made the same, therefore some may have more of a problem than others. Heres my experience...
I run Pitbull Rockers (which have rim protectors) with Allied aluminum beadlocks, and have consistently run them at 5 psi and never had an issue, yet.
I should also mention in a magazine article I had read this exact combo, Rockers + Allied Rock Crusher wheels resulted in more popped beads than any other combo they tested. Never been a problem though.
I think rim protectors on true off road, bias ply tires is a waste anyways. If a wheel is going to slam a rock hard enough to cause structural damage I question how much that little bead of rubber will help. It does make sense theoretically that the protectors would cause the tire to have a greater chance of popping off but I wouldnt worry too much about it. Tire manufactures must be putting on the protectors for the mall crawling crowd...
