Questionable Body Lift...

Got an 88 p/u from gramps. has a 3 inch body lift that looks questionable. Front spacers on crossmember under radiator look like cheesy plastic, while the rear has rectangular 1/8" thick "supports" lifting the bed with some birdcrap looking welds. have taken it out to the desert a few times and doesnt seem rickety...then again everything works great the day before it fails. what is the acceptable method of doing a body lift? I hate the idea of trusting my truck's body-frame contact to plastic and 15 yr old bolts that I didnt choose. I can weld, if this helps. Ill try and post pics tomorrow.

great info and custom made body lift's reasonable if you want to replace with a quality lift.

after further inspection, i found that my kit looks identical to those already being sold! i notice downey sells one for the front crossmember support under the grill. is that really just for looks? why would they only sell a solid one piece for only the front? is it because of access or that it is the most visibly noticable point? is the front more prone to "excessive shearing forces" as they say?

I am hoping the bed has the similar pucks on the 4 main mounts that was used to lift the cab.
If the 1/8" rectangular spacers are the ones just under the wheel well, consider yourself luck. Half the time when people do body lifts they don't even bother to install those. It at least gives some support to the bed.
