Need help with new build!

Hello everyone I'm new to the site and new to toyotas in general. I recently bought an 86 4runner from a guy who already took out the engine and 4x4 and tried to do a swap to an engine from a Chevy Colorado. Anyways he got halfway through and decided to get rid of the project so he took out the engine and tranny and I bought everything else for $200. The truck is clean has about 80k no dents.

I was wanting to go ahead and build a baja truck since the 4x4 is out. It already has a 2in body on 31s.

I'm a student and I just got a check for tuition reimbersement for $3000 so that's my budget for this summer project. I also have a shop w a lift, welder, plasma cutter, tube bender, frame machine, and a half ass paint booth.

I was thinking of doing a Lexus v8 cs400 swap not sure what tranny though still need to find one wrecked.

Any advice on the suspension? If you were in my shoes what would you do?

I do already have a 9" axle housing, w Detroit locker, 4:10 gears but no 3rd member or axles. I also got 4 discs from 79 Versailles with ford calipers. I was thinking about building that up and throwing it in there not sure yet trying to plan it out.

I've built a few trail rigs before (samurai, bronco, jeep) but this will be my first desert racer and Toyota.

I've looked at the total chaos suspension kit and I will probably get some pieces from it and build the rest since I am on a budget. I'm just curios on what the best way to do the rear. Spoa solid axle lift suspensions are easy is that what most do?

But that's what I'm workin with any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Brandon
