Brandon - how's the truck doing - back on the road yet?

I passed smog on the third try (damn vacuum hoses were not installed correctly - totally my fault), and recently got the newer W56 installed - wahoo, it LIVES!!

I also got a 25 foot extension and 3 prong dryer socket plug for the welder...plan to have it set up within a week or two, and then get practicing. I need to make a jig to line up the new hardware, and also need to "treat" the chevies and install new bushings. Lots to do.

Your photos on the first couple pages aren't loading for me....did the account go down or is it just me?

Phil

I seen this tread is super old and dont know if you even jump on here anymore but Just wondering. I read you put the 63 chevy leaf springs but im very curious to know what you did to lift the front. I have a 89 4runner with IFS suspension and i am very new to fixing up trucks. I am trying to fit 33 12.50 15 tires that i just bought but my 31 bfg A/t already rub So im trying to see what i can do to put these new tires on.

I know im gonna need some sort of lift to fit them considering my 31s already rub. What did you do to lift the front of your truck? Did you get a Suspension lift?(if so which lift did you get?)

Woot woot. I found a kick ass deal all thanks to yotatech. I was looking for a solid axle in sothern California only. Till I remembered someone posting "dont be afraid to look out of your area or state. Sometimes its worth the drive" so I did just that. Looked up entire state of CA, Arizona, and Nevada and came across a guy who just posted up a solid axle, SAS kit, and a Rancho 4" lift springs for front and rear. All for only $550. He is at Las Vegas and I'm driving from Los Angeles. Gonna meet him up half way tomorrow. I'm so happy I found such a great deal. It's only missing 2 minor things but it won't cost nearly as much as those $1k SAS kits that's for sure.

Phil, sorry for the long delay im not on here very much anymore. School has been taking its toll on me and i dont have the time to get on the internet like i used to. She is still down, BUT I just got a job with Kauffman Tire as a sales associate and make almost double what i was making at Advance Auto Parts. So the repairs to the 88 are coming.

Red, i have ball joint spacers and downey torsion bars, but it looks like youre good to go as far as front lift now that you have everything you need for the SAS. Good luck with it bud

Oh what... So you dont even have any kind of a lift kit? That's nice man.
By the way your truck is one of the nicest I've seen on yotatech. Definitely one of my top 5 favorites. Check out my buildup thread tell me what you think. I'm really looking forward to having that axle installed. If i wasnt SASing I probably would have gone with your method. Cuz it really does work for your truck. Oh and by the way, what kind of bumper is your front bumper? And where can I get one like it. It's super sexy lol

Congrats on the new job!
My w56 is out of the truck again...leaking like crazy so disassembled and re sealed. Dropping oil pan and re sealing that while it is all out.

THEN, maybe I will have time to play with my welder :-)

Nice man. What are you forced to drive right now since your truck isn't working?

im in that 2001 4Runner SR5 4WD, 3.4, auto, center diff lock. I was in a 1990 Stanza and a 1998 Jetta. Both sucked and this 01 4Runner is much better than either of them. I already got some springs and struts from the front of a 99 Taco, so it will get about 1-1.5" of lift up front and Ill get some OME coils for the rear. Then wrap the current wheels on it with 265/75R15 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs.

The BJ spacers are made by SDORI (San Diego Off-Road Innovations), TBs by Downey, who is no longer in business, and shocks are Pro Comp ES3000s. It is not a "kit" i pieced together what works well for these trucks instead of buying a Drop-Bracket kit that does not give you any increased wheel travel. Thanks dude, I have worked hard and put a lot of money into this 4Runner to make it what it is today. Front bumper is made by Addicted Off-Road.

Nice. I'm debating on whether to buy an ARB bull horn bumper. But they look super heavy. i dont know if its worth getting i really think id probably loose mileage and gain a ton of weight on the front. So my 2nd choice would be a bumper similar to yours. I like both types very much.

Really want that ARB bumper though. It gives the truck a beefy look.

Another thing I was really interested in was a getting a soft top with a roof rack. It looks pretty kick ass
I seen this guys picture and I loved the way it came out.

Only thing about a soft top is that the area I live in isn't the best area so Im also considering doing something like what you did with your 4runner. My only question is. How did you get the rack on? Did you have to drill any holes into the hard top to make it secure?. It looks pretty solid on your truck.

It is a little heavy, but wont destroy you. Its good bc it will increase approach angle and give you the option of having a winch. I just prefer the look of tube bumpers over plate bumpers.

I wish I could have gotten a soft top for mine awhile ago when I had the opportunity. O well, Im sure i will have another chance to get one in the future. I did have to drill holes to make it work, wasnt too bad. Check out a thread I made in the past about washing and waxing my 4Runner or one of my other threads to see where I had to drill holes in the roof. Just be sure to put silicone in the holes before you put the bolts in so it doesnt leak inside when it rains.

Looks so sick! I just it an 85 runner. It's stock and the leafs are sad. I'm going to do what you did for sure. What did you do up front ? And what shocks are you running?
Again great rig.

I feel like the 53's are still to long for the stock hanger.
