Question Max tire size with 2 1/2" lift?

I've searched and read posts, so now I'm really confused...

Thanks to sdastg1, I've got a set of Daystar 2 1/2" rear coil spacers on the way. I bought the front 2 1/2" kit from Central 4WD a couple of days ago. So, this weekend I should have about 2 1/2" inches of lift waiting for new tires.

I know this has been beat to death, but I can't seem to determine with any certainty what tires will fit. I'm looking for the tallest, widest tires that will fit with little or no rubbing. I don't plan to do a bunch of trimming or pounding.

Except for the lift, everything will remain stock. However, someone might steal my running boards soon (ssshh, don't tell my wife). Hopefully the spacer kit will be temporary until I can convince my wife that a proper lift and shocks are necessary.

Stats:
  • Stock fender flares and body cladding
  • 2 1/2" Daystar coil spacer lift (front and rear)
  • Stock coils
  • Stock shocks
  • Stock alloy wheels (16x7 I believe)
BFG M/Ts are likely what I'll get. I've had a couple of sets and really liked them. Please help me decide on the proper size.

I run 33X10.50's BFG MT's on my stock wheels with about 2 1/2 inches of lift. They rub at full turn on the frame. No where else.

I'd recommend going with 265/75 BFG/MT/KM. In fact, I happen to know someone in your area selling a used set, rims and all! I could put in a good word for you! <evil grin>

add a 1" BL ($100) and you can run 285s with very very minor rub

Thanks for the replies... Couple of questions though.

Are we talking rubbing on the street when turning at full lock? Will it be worse at full stuff off-road, and will I break anything if I'm not careful?

I'm interested, although I was hoping to go a little bigger. Do you know what he wants, and what kind of wheels?

Thanks a lot. Looking forward to getting them.

How much work is a 1" BL? Does anything need to be extended or moved (other than the body of course)?

Yes, 285/75/16s will fit on stock 16x7 rims. Lots of guys here are running that setup and so will I in the future. Though I've heard of the Tacos having the frame rubbing issue, I've never heard of it from a 4Runner owner. Most 4Runner guys have rubbing on the pinch weld (easily resolved with a little pounding) and the limited flares.

1. When you turn the steering wheel all the way to one side or the other the front tires will rub. At full stuff it will rub a lot more. Will you break anything .. probably not ... but it sure does sound aweful when the tire rubs all along the inside lining...

2. Gene is the one selling the wheels .. it wa sa shameless plug for himself.

3. 1" BL ... very easy to do. Only thing that you have to extend is the steering wheel, and you can order that too. Its only 2 bolts to replace. 4crawler.com is the plave to go (Roger Brown). Make sure you get the ultimate blocks, its a few dollars more (literally) and its well worth it.
