Look what I got........

Today I scored an e-locker 3rd!!! I will install it in my front end this summer after desert season is over. The gears are shot, but will be replaced anyways. The pinion bearing went bad and it scored the carrier, but it is superficial. It even came with the wire harness and a writeup on how to install and wire it...

mmmmmmmm e-locker

Didnt pay very much. I will probably buy the Inchworm controller, and take a good look at some of the writeups for the housing modifications and install tips.

I will also have a 4.88 third and Lockrite available after it is installed.

I somehow doubt he is going to be having issues with that, especially being on 33's.

Nice score Marc.

front and rear 3rds are interchangeable. low pinion is low pinion, the stock solid axle front 3rd is a low pinion, so you arent losing any strength. the only high pinion e-lockers are from FJ80s (rare and $$$$$$$) and the servo on the hp e-lockers causes clearance issues with the passenger side u-bolts.

That is what I thought...Bruce is just talking about having reverse cut gears....I am not worried about that.

Not sure when or how much my current 3rd will be. Probably wont be available until sometime this summer.

I have read all of those...but they are all about rear ends. I was looking for pictures and writeups for the front end. I know the housing is modified the same, just wanted any tips for the install.

When we can figure out how to make an 8" IFS centersection, then I will join you.

The only thing I had to do with my high pinion elocker was use a low profile bolt that I could countersink into the aluminum body of the locker motor housing.

The hardest thing about modifying the housing is getting the holes drilled straight. I've done two now and they've both come out well. Bolt up the third to the axle housing with most of the studs and a couple nuts (don't need all of them). Use a drill bit that fits the holes perfectly (or as close as you can get) and drill about an 1/8" into the housing. You just need it deep enough for the correct drill bit used for tapping follows the dimple. With the third still on the housing drill out the holes using the correct size for the tap.

Those are the writeups I was looking for today. Thanks Steve. I did get the harness with the 3rd...

Looks like this..hopefully it will make the wiring easier.
