lifting my 81

Im planning on a 3 or 4" spring lift for my yoda, i was curious if i need to extend the front and rear drive shafts. one of my buddies said NO as long as i don't go over a 4". is this true??? not building a rock crawler just a daily driver and a weekend warrior thing!! already put on 33 12.50s. they r working great. just want alittle more clearence. i dont care bout the roughness of the ride either... any input would b very helpful....

I think you'd better need a long spline slip yoke in the front driveshaft, but I cannot be sure...

Please post pics when done, as there are almost no pre-89 trucks here...

no pics yet i basicly just bought this 4bi from my brother inlaw.. just sold my 81 f 150 8" susp. 3" body.37" MTRs, boredout 68 302. cuz i fell for this yoda. and i have been living in the dark ages 4 a while, still new to the computor too..... sucks 2 cuz i just had the front shaft rebuilt on this. b 4 i even thought bout liting it....

The rear shaft ought to be fine, I do not know about the front though.

I'm interested too...I'll be throwing on a 3 inch lift this month and hadnt planned on extending the drive shaft, but may need to add that to my to do list.

I ran my stock shafts on my 82 4x4 with a 5" lift and rock crawled it and it worked just vibrated like a bitch in 4WD on the highway
you should be fin with 3" but you never know til you try

OP you should be OK, but as 4x4 Yota said the front shaft may vibrate (mine does) but should be better when I lengthen the shaft for the dual cases/4" Trail Gear lift..

What are your plans for the truck? IMO I would reccomend going with the Marlin Crawler lift. I have witnessed two sets of Trail Gear springs bend and need to be replaced. All Pro Buggy springs are a good option and flex well. Just remember..."Buy Nice or Buy Twice"
