Lift Questions

New member seeking advice on lifts, tires, and rims for my 89 5 spd 3.0 4runner. Currently running 31's and would like to go up to 33 or 34's. Would like to know the best way to do so with $$ in mind, yet done right if possible.
Mostly a truck to get me to my fishing holes, and running around on my property, nothing extreme, just a little mud.
Thanks
Troy

stick with 33's
get the ball joint spacers(150.00 a pair) upfront and stick with the stock torsion bars
in the rear get some downey lift springs(150.00 a pair) I also recommend thier prerunner Add a Leaf ($35.00 a pair) as a replacement for the stock overload.

That should net you enough lift a long with some minor trimming and pounding the front fender seam back.

33's are about all that the IFS components can handle reliably. It's better to do as little lift as necessary to keep your center of gravity low.

You're probably gonna want to throw some 4.88 gears in your axles to match the 33's

This topic is very well covered on here, don't be afraid to use the little search button under the Tacoma on the top of the page.

Thanks for the info. I looked up the springs and found them in 2" and 3", I assume I need the 3? and the spacers came in 1.5", do I use two of them? I understand the helper to take out my sag, right? and finally, would bushwhacker cut-outs help?
much thanks

You can fit 33s quite easily on that vehicle:

Ball joint spacers up front, add-a-leaf, longer shackles in back and a 1"-2" body lift would do it...

For the price of the downey's I would recommend them over add a leafs, a little extra cost but a softer ride. I run the 3 inch setup without the recommeended leaf added in from the stock pack. This nets about 2 inches of lift and I clear my 33x10.50's without major rubbing. A little in the rear of the well at full compression, but no big deal.

I would recommend running 33x10.50's especially if you have the 22re and plan to run on the streets alot. The extra weight and drag you save helps.
