Lift question
#21
Generally yes, unless you have an extremely rare truck with an extra-long steering shaft. If you want to check ahead of time, pull your shaft out and see how long it is. In any event, you can always install the extension and if it turns out you do not need it, it may be returned for a full refund (to date in 3+ years of making 3rd gen kits, nobody has returned an extension for not needing it). On the 3rd gens and Tacomas, the steering shaft is nearly vertical, so 1" of lift means the shaft needs to be made 1" longer. Some folks choose to cut the shaft and weld in a length of tubing to make it longer. Most choose a simple bolt-in extension:

This is also the reason the Steering Extension is listed as part of the Typical 1" body lift kit, since it is "typically" needed.

Do I need to regear my rig after the new 285/75/16?
According to these sites:
http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/other/4_axles.html

I got my Vin plate A/TM #s:
A01A/A340E and I guess, I have a 3.3 / 3.42 gears.
Do I need 4.88 gears?
