How do I protect my exposed air filter?

I just built a snorkel which i will create a thread for that but now my high performance air filter is on top of my truck. After testing it I thought.. How do I keep Mud off it and how do I keep Water from getting absorbed into it?? Any ideas or products??

I've heard that a the foot part of a pair of panty-hose works well for shedding water and keeping mud and grit out in a pinch actually. Just keep in tight below the element with an elastic band or a hose clamp.

i have one question about this type of setup. why would you put your air filter in open air straight to the intake. i deal with snorkeled 4 wheelers a lot, not much with trucks, but i know truck engines are more expensive than 4 wheeler engines. have you ever seen a snorkel like your talkin about break? if it does there is no type of filter between where you sayin your airfilter is and your engine. so if it breaks your suckin dirt.

like i said i've never fooled with trucks much, but i've seen ppl snorkel quads like this and i've seen em break and there goes the engine.

i geuss my question is, why wouldn't you use an airbox to snorkel it?

from the looks of the truck looks like a 1st gen so the airbox thats on it is...well not really whater tight, anyways if i was in ur situation ide go with the outerware for now or even pantyhose and get a newer yota airbox of some sort and use that for the filter location and seal her up

you can always reroute it into your glovebox, that way if your glovebox goes under, you probaly shouldnt have been there in the first place. Or ya just need bigger tires
