Talking Hemi jiont TRE's

i did some sreaching and couldn't find any, or any info on hemi TRE jionts.so i'm making this thread for idea slinging...
now i can find hemi jionts of different sizes, and spacers to fit, they come in left and right hand threads. you would just need to buy the right hardware. i think the hemis would be stringer than regualr TRE's and they have nearly unlimited swivle for felxing.
so would they be good, or bad?
but anyways let the ideas fly

They're called HEIM joints - that's why your search didn't find anything.

Typically, they are used for trail only trucks as they have quite a bit more slop and play than a standard TRE.

they have more slop...seems like they would have less to me. i know alot of jeep guys running them without much slop...and i think they would last longer

Ok, well thats not a heim joint its an RE joint or Johnny Joint. If you mean using an RE as a steering link, I guess it could work, my concerns would be running a joint like that in a single shear style mount. I dont think it would be safe or very positive feeling. Also they require rebuilding as they wear.

If your talking about heims? Then I always advise against heims for ON ROAD use. Unless your truck is a trailer queen then you will likely find that in little time they will wear out and feel sloppy and dangerous.

I say they are both bad ideas. Whats wrong with a fj80 TRE, they are strong as hell.

I've run heim joints on my steering for at least 10 years now, they work fine for me:

I have mine set up now with the bolts in double shear for added strength:

You must suck at the then ...

Here's info on Johnny Joints, give you a good idea of the strengths and weaknesses of heims too:
http://www.currieenterprises.com/ces...nnyjoints.aspx

I have JJ on both ends of my rear 4 link and they are NIIICE - move SUPER smooth with NO binding.

RE joints are basically the same thing:

Have you been doing alot of street driving on those joints over the ten years? have you ever rebuilt them? I see you are in the SW, here in the Midwest the mud tears up heims in no time. We dont even like to use them on suspension. If I linked I would use bushings at the axle and RE/Johnnys at the frame, if not rubber all around. But then again my truck sees a lot of sloppy trails and alot of highway.

BTW I like the double shear!

ive got a few friends who run hiem steering. they run the Qa1 3/4 x 3/4 hiems. and they havent had a problem yet. and i'll put money down on a qa1 hiem being stronger than a fj60 tre. ive worn out 3 so far.

I agree
Hiems are great for trailer qeens, but for a daily driver, over time especaily, they would wear out and get really sloppy and noisy. No bueno.
