Front SAS leaf spring question...

If I ordered the 4" springs with either All Pro's or Marlin's, but wanted a little less lift, could I take a leaf out of the springs? Would that work, or would it mess something up? The reason I asked is that I wanted to order the 3" springs from All Pro, but they said the 3" springs werent made for full bodied trucks, etc, but rather for buggies and stuff....they have a soft spring rate, and then after they settle, Im afraid they'll flex to a negative arch. So in order to get a little less lift from the 4" springs, I was just going to take a spring out of the pack...let me know what you think. Alex

Well, with the 2nd gen 4Runner, you have coils in back. You would need to get at least 2 sets of stock rears to make up a custom pack. But yes, you can take a leaf out of the 4" springs, usually the 2nd to the bottom for less lift. However, you may find you need to run tall enough bumpstops to keep the tie rod and drag link off off of the frame under compression. You can run the 1 less leaf until the springs settle a bit, then add that leaf back in to restore the ride height if needed.

thats what i was thinking....about the bumpstops and adding that leaf back later. The only reason I wasnt going to use any other type of leaf (ie....a rear pack) is because I dont want to separate the SAS package....I talked to all pro, and they said that if you buy the package, you end up saving about 15 % over buying the parts separately. So im just going to get a kit, and then make do with that. Thanks guys...Alex

ah ha, thanks Roger...I missed that minor detail. Personally I'd go with marlin or even All Pro but not Trail Gear. What's the price diff now between marlin and all pro?

Those kits are pretty nice. Be interested to see what you think of the install...the other SAS going on right now is moving along at a very rapid rate. Keep us posted, and good luck with the spring dilemma
