Front drive shaft

Hey guys. This is my first post, so hello!
I got a 92 xcab 4x4 pickup and the front drive-shaft always spins whenever one of the front wheels spin. Both hubs are turned to free and i'm in 2wd and it still spins. My friend has the same truck as me on a 91' and his doesn't spin when hes in 2wd. I'm pretty sure the front drive shaft is not supposed to spin when in 2wd and I think this is hurting my gas mileage. I'm guessing one of my hubs need some work (the front right hub is easy to turn until i'm about 1/2 way to the 'lock' position. The left hub turns fine).

any thoughts guys?

Thanks

It's not costing you mileage, but something is definitely wrong. There are a couple writeups on here about how to take apart the AISIN hubs and rebuild them.

It is costing you mileage and additional wear on your R&P and front driveline components. There are 2 springs located in the Aisin hub one is a pusher and one is a puller. Id put money one slipped out of place. Read this thread and you will learn how to fix this issue.

Those hubs are probably not unlocking. If they get water and mud and dirt into them the grease tends to turn into glue, and won't allow it to unlock. I'd pull them off, give them a good soaking in mineral spirits or hose down with brake cleaner, re-lube, and reinstall. Also, make sure you don't pack them too full of grease. You just want a coating on all the pieces, not a solid wall of goop inside.
