Yes, will depend on the front end parts on your truck. One thing to do is take a picture of the front CV joints/boots before the lift and compare that to after. If you see the fins on the boots touching more after the lift, then that is something a diff. drop can help with. Also, check the CVs for binding at full droop (spin them by hand to feel for smooth operation). If all that is OK, you may be fine without a drop kit install. If you find increased CV joint or boot wear after the lift, a diff drop can help reduce that. Also, depends on whether you have drive flanges or manual hubs up front (unlocked manual hubs will do the most to reduce wear and tear on the CVs):

I have the TRD lift on the front. It lifts by 1.75". I did the diff drop. Do I need the drop? Probably not. I think it is cheap/easy insurance. It should prolong CV life.

I started this thread in the 95.5-2004 Tacomas & 96-2002 4Runners section. This is my conclusion.

"I dropped my skidplate and did an oil change yesterday. I didn't remove my diff drop and measure but as others have said you aren't dropping the whole diff, just rotating it. The rear, driveshaft side, mount is 6" from the axle centerline. The front, where the drops go in, is 7" from the axle centerline. There for when you drop the front 1" the actual axle centerline only drops .462" (~15/32") Just under 1/2".

Is it worth it? That is up to you. I'm leaving mine in."
