Forklift flex and new shocks sizes

Hello,

I've been forklifting my truck to measure the new shocks I need.

I've OME 901 HD coil springs and I want to put Rancho RS9000's in the rear.

Yes, I'm waiting to have my panhard drop bracket...

I've been measuring the same way Rancho measures their shocks in the specs sheet and I've got this sizes:

Compressed: 17.13''
Extended: 26.97''

I could extend more but my coil will fall hehehe

Your common choose with Cruiser or taller coils is Rancho RS99009, it's specs are:

Compressed: 16.00''
Extended: 26.125''

I think they're a little short, or at least they will limit my drop more than I want...

I've found a 2004 F-150 shock that is a little longer and apparently the same stem-eye config, the Rancho RS99251. His specs are:

Compressed: 16.125''
Extended: 27.000''

The only problem I've is the eye size... I don't understand exactly with inches, it's code is LS43 and the RS99009 is LS38.

Looking at the specs table, can you say me if it will fit my 2nd Gen 4Runner please?

I'd be pleased if you can help me, I'm pending of this to order new shocks.

Thanks,

David

F150 LS43 14mm 1-9/16
Cruiser LS38 1/2" 1-1/2
--------------------------------
Difference (inch) 3/64" 1/16"

It looks like it's slightly larger on both dimensions, but I don't see the key dimension - the INSIDE diameter of the eye.

It looks to me like they might be close enough to be worth trying, so long as it's a good company who would take them back if they don't fit...

I have some of the F150 Ranchos in my garage, but I could not get them to work. The bushing on the bottom is way to small. I tried to enlarge it, but it fell apart.

Thanks Marc, this is what I not wanted to hear hehehehe

But it seems as tc points that this concrete shock is a bit larger than the 9009...

I know I can try and if not returning them, but I'm getting them from the US because of the price of the 9000's here...

Do you think I can reuse my actual OME bushings if the Rancho's don't fit?

David

I tried to remove the Rancho bushings. They might come out, but it will not be easy. I used Deutch Tech shocks for a small lift on the F150. They have a softer material for the bushings, and with some muscle and lubricant I was able to get them on. I will try to find a part # for you.

Before I had my rear setup, I had a ghetto setup. I just had a set of procomp shocks that we found in the USED bin at 4Wheel Parts. I have no idea what they came off of, but we measure the extended and compressed lengths and it worked.

It was an eye-eye shock, but it required some reworking. The top eye had a post through it that I had to remove and the bottom bushing was way to small to fit on the stock lower mount.

I was able to open the bushing up quite a bit just using a dremel tool with a grinder bit. It smelled horrible as I ground that rubber, but it eventually worked. So grinding it opene is also an option.

thats better flex than I get, I guess I need more lift, and more tires, and more gears, and lockers, and a rear bumper, and so on.......

Measurement A appears to be the inside of the eye measurement. To the best of my ability, that images appears to be a cross section of the bushing and eye, I could totally be wrong though.

if the bushing is too wide or the hole is too small, put the shock in the freezer overnight. this will stiffen up the bushing enough that it will be easy to drill out the hole to the larger size needed and if the bushing is too wide, a sawzall or a cut off wheel will cut them easily

Yeah, I also think that but don't know about the bushings... I think I would try... The seem to be only a bit bigger, less than 1mm...

Now that I've installed a longer brake line I'll order the shocks.
