dual transfer case problem!

Ok I've had dual transfer case setup in my truck for over a year now (trail gear) and it has always worked great. But now my rear case keeps getting hung up and won't shift.u can't move the rear shifter at all and it will get stuck between gears. I have tore it apart numorous times now and can't figure it out! Has anybody else had this problem? I'm getting super frustrated with it. Any help would be awesome

Did you change the gear ratio in the rear case?

No I didn't. Its a stock rear case. I'm going to do a 4.7 to 1 sometime in the near future, but I wana get this problem figured out first. I wheeled it pretty hard all day yesterday and it worked just fine. I left the rear case in 4 low and just used the front to go from high and low depending on how fast I needed to go, but as soon as I got back to camp and tried to shift into 2wd the rear case got stuck

Might want to look at the interlock pin and the detent spring/ball they might be allowing the shifters to get out of alignment. More likely to be the detent ball/spring as the interlock pin wouldn't/shouldn't be able to move unless the shift rails were pulled out of case. Been a long time since I was in a transfer case.

I changed the ball and detent spring on one side, I'm going to try changing the other side and see if that does the trick

IS it an issue of the drivetrain binding in 4WD? If you try shifting out of 4WD before getting onto pavement or a hard packed surface and while going straight for a while, it'll help unload the stress in the drivetrain from 4WD use.

no its stuck in 2 high right now and I had to take the rear shifter off and pop it in with a screwdriver just to get it to move. I'm pretty sure its the shift rods getting out of place or something like that. But then again I could be totaly wrong

Did you ever figure out what the problem was? I am having the exact same problem with my 85 runner with duals.

You just take the shift plate off with the four bolts to the floorboard, which will remove the shifter completely. Then you can use a screw driver to re-align the shift tracks. They are the the blocks just underneath the shifting plate and almost look like: [ just move them until it looks like: [] if that makes any sense at all. Then bolt it back up and you are good to go.
