dual case question

dual case question
i tried searching and couldn't find anything useful so ill just ask
im building dual cases, i have a set of 4.70 gears 23 spline, and a 23 spline adapter with 23 spline input gear in the rear case, i am also running a v6 transmission so i need to match the 23 spline output shaft,
my question is, is there any harm with putting the 4.7 gears in the first case and leave the 2.28 gears in the rear case. iv heard about it causing failure to the rear reduction box due to input shaft failure of a 21 spline. but since i have the 23 spline set up, will it be ok?

IMO if you build duals you should get a chromoly output shaft from Longfield anyway so you will be tearing both cases apart regardless.
It's early and I haven't had any coffee, but you want the 4.7 gears in the rear case.

IT has nothing to do with the number of splines on the input. It's more about how the torque is multiplied through cases. When you put the 4.7's in the front case you end up stressing the coupler a lot more than you would with the 4.7's in the rear case.
If you are using two gear drive cases I would reccomend putting the 4.7's in the rear case. Is there some reason you don't want to do that?
There is a very good thread on this subject on Marlin's site or maybe Pirate.

actually it does, i know it causes more stress on the rear case, especially with the stock 21 spline, thats why i stated i have the 23 spline because its stronger.
the reason i am asking this is i already rebuilt the rear case and its all sealed up, and id rather not have to tear back into it but i might as well to be safe. that and i was curious because i knew it was a rule of thumb to put the 4.7 gears in the rear case but with stronger gears would it really matter.

It's not just the input shaft you need to worry about, I'd be concerned aout stripping the the coupler more (Speaking from experience). But you seem to already know all the answers so do whatever you want then.
