Driveshaft Question (i think...)

I recently bought an 88 pickup and put the manual transmission in myself. When I go 45 miles per hour, the truck violently shakes up and down. I ruled out tires as the problem, since it goes down the road fine when I throw it in neutral. But when there's engine power to the wheels, it shakes awfully. Anyone know whats up or how i can fix it?

Get a new driveshaft?

I've heard about guys getting them balanced, but, dont take my word for it.

check your motor mounts and tranny mounts as well as excess play in your u-joints

When the driveshaft was out of the truck, did the slip yoke get pulled apart? If the shaft got pulled apart, and then put back together with the u-joints on either end out of phase, then it could vibrate pretty bad.

I don't really know how to desribe it, but make sure that the u-joints on the t-case end and on the differential end are basically in the same position. If they aren't, pull the shaft apart at the slip yoke and rotate it until the u-joints are the same at each end.
