Ok, one more question, what are my truck's specs as far as ordering a locker goes? I thinks its one of these two:
Toyota 8" 4 cyl Turbo and V6 - All Ratios
or
Toyota 7.5" - All Ratios

Not sure though, wanna make sure I order the right part. If anybody can fill me in, I'd greatly appreciate it!

I don't know if yours is 8 or 7.5.....just tell the shop that you get it from exactly what you have...1999 Taco 2wd V6(I suspect its 8")

You will probably notice a clunk everytime you shift into reverse or forward....that's the normal slop in the drivetrain/locker being takin up by the engagement of the auto tranny. But as far as any other noises on the road or in parking lots.....nope.
You have an auto tranny......it's a whole new ball game with a locker....you will be very happy with how friendly it is. Make sure you update this thread when you test drive it ok?

Something I didn't mention in my previous post above.....the only time I personally would consider putting the cheaper lunchbox style locker in the REAR is when it's backed up by an auto tranny. The liquid cushion of an auto allows a rear Luncher to live and should make it operate just as quiet as a regular full blown locker(detroit soft)..

Seth-------A 5 speed will chirp/spin the tires alot easier than an auto(both armed with lockers).
A Detroit Soft Locker install needs only the backlash reset(and swap the carrier bearings over to the new case)......pretty much the same as a lunchbox locker install because you can't get the dam crosspin out without taking the ring gear physically off the case anyways. Backlash is easy to reset.

updating my sig........

Thanks again for the info ZUK! I did alot of searching and came to the conclusion that I have the 8"...the 7.5 was for the pickups before the taco's if I'm not mistaken. I ordered the locker, hopefully it'll be in and installed within the next couple weeks....I sure am looking forward to it!

On a side note, however, a lady at work told me she may be selling her 87 4x4....great condition with a rebuilt front end....figures this would come up right after I buy new Revo's and a locker We'll see what happens

Thanks again for the replies and I'll be sure to post a follow up!

update:

I called Jawsgear (store I ordered from) after I placed the order to double check that I asked for the right part. Well, as luck would have it, I didn't Turns out I needed the 7.5" part, not the 8".
Well they turned the shipment around and are sending the correct one which should be here by the end of the week (hopefully)
Once it arrives I'm sure I'll have questions regarding installation so be prepared

i would avoid all auto lockers for a daily driver. I have a built Jeep TJ (toy) with a full detroit rear (which IS smoother then the EZ) and its not transparent, although not to bad it does take some getting used too. Auto lockers are torque senstive, thats how they work if you appling power both wheels are going to lock together, if they dont your locker is useless, if the wheels dont lock under a load when are they going to lock?..never...so if your turning real sharp and give it some gas you'll get a chirping if the turn is sharp enough, if you drift through the turn the wheels will be unlocked so you wont even notice it. With a manual tranny an auto locker is VERY noticable but one can still get used too it after a while, requires some fancy rev matching since there will and should be a little bit of slop in the driveshaft also between shift you'll get "rearsteer" which is the torque transition from the inside wheel to the outside, nothing real bad but you tend to keep it in 4x4 more in the snow when you'd usually leave it in 4x2. With a manual transmission you'll notice that slop on every shift with an auto you dont really notice that cept from drive to reverse. That is why I wouldnt really recommend any auto locker for a daily driver but it can be done, just takes some getting used too....and you might want to check out the aussie lockers, i've heard very good things about them....

i love my rear detroit, just takes a little driving modifications like not flooring it around corners after a rain. i think iv'e heard my detroit once. the newer ones are much better than the old ones. my friend has a old jeep with an old detroit in it when it unloads it sounds like someone is shooting at you. i have an ez locker in my front and it's great too. im a good road driver so it doesnt bother me. my wife thinks it sucks but she doesnt drive my rig anyway. besides one you get that traction you'll never want to go back

Well, long story short, I got called the other day by the store I'm ordering my EZ from and they tell me that there is no EZ locker available for Tacomas I guess it's cause of the 8.4" rear...
Anyway, they're going to send me a Lockright now instead...I guess they have a part specifically designed for Taco's. Should be in today or tomorrow.
I'm growing impatient...I ordered this thing almost a month ago. I need it in by this Saturday for the Big Bear trip...argh. Looks like I'll be putting it in Thursday night (hopefully)
And the cookie continues to crumble....

Here's an update

So far I love it.....definitley handles differently on the road but once you take it off-road you won't regret it. Like others have said, it's prolly the best off-road performance mod you can do to your rig.
