clarification on gearing my truck
ok, so from what i've read while searching for answers, my stock 4.88 V6 third can be regeared, if and only if, i replace the carrier with a locker.
i've read that i cannot just regear because the carrier is actually off center. but if i replace it with a locker and some 5.29's, for example, then all is well in the V6 housing.
so what i'm gathering is that the v6 housing is the same whether the vehicle came with 4.56 or 4.88 gears, it's the thin 4.88 ring and offset carrier that are the problem.
is this true?

The carrier is the only thing that is standard. The case can never be regeared and the gears won't fit in a standard case.
