Cheap on-board air question?

I bought this little compressor from harbor freight the other day, it has the same specs as the warn model but its cheaper. What I was wondering is if its ok to have it mounted horizontally. Is there any type of oiling system on these things that could be affected by mounting it on its side?

From what I remember, the cheap ones are oil-less so it shouldn't matter which way you mount it.

How much did that run you at Harbor Fright?

you had it for years? Does that mean it worked for years? How did you like it?

I have one of the MV50 compressors hard mounted under the hood of my truck with a Viair 110/150 pressure switch and a 2.5 gal air tank. It works okay, but there was a lot of condensation in the lines so I installed a water separator in the line before the air tank. I recently picked up one of these : http://www.amazon.com/Q-Industries-Q...d_i=B000BM8RT8

and I will be swapping out the MV50 for it once the 2RZ swap is done on my truck since I will have more room under the hood for accessories once the 3.0 is gone.

heres the specs:12 volt motor, 30 amp, 150 PSI max., Air delivery: 1.35 CFM @ 40 PSI, 1.14 CFM @ 70 PSI, 1.05 CFM @ 90 PSI, Overall dimensions: 11-1/4'' L x 5-1/2'' W x 7-1/2'' H, Overall weight: 11 lbs.

The site says its $64 but when I went to the local store it was $50 so I was pretty happy about that. I also picked up a 5 gallon tank for $20 and now that I've seen that pressure switch seafarinman mentioned I might be getting one of those too. Time to go bolt this thing in.

So I finally got all the pieces to get my OBA up and running using that harbor freight compressor.
I hooked it up to my 5 gal. tank and started filling it up and when it got to 100psi the compressor broke .
It still runs but does not build any pressure. Maybe its just an O-ring or something.
Anyway if I can't fix it I'm gonna look into one of the Q industries MV-50.
What a bummer.

Another option is to use a compressor out of a car that has air ride. Check the local junk yards for one. I know that lincolins have them. Just an idea.

yea, the lincolns do have them. but you have to be real careful when you go to drill out the air outlet for the air chuck quick disconnect. i screwed up mine real quick. i would recommend using a drill press. and make sure its extremely stable. it should be in an early 80's car. its under the hood. on the drivers side. actually both sides but the drivers side is easiest to pull out.
