Hi guys. I was thinking of getting a skid plate for my 3rd gen from Budbuilt. I contacted him and he says that his fit the Tacoma but is unsure if they fit a 3rd gen. Does anyone know if this will fit? If not how much modding needs to be done on it to get it to fit? Thanks.

I have a front IFS skid plate on my 3rd gen with the 1inch diff drop, but Im assuming you are asking about something else.

I have a 1997 4Runner with 1" diff drop from Sonoran steel. The Budbuilt skid plate fits on mine. I did ask him to "bend" it before he shipped, so it will clear the 1" diff drop. Fits like a glove. I also have sonoran steel's shackle bracket. It fits with the skidplate, but I had to take the reinforcing bolt because the corner of the skid plate interferes with it.

 

It was a glich. After I posted the question it didnt' show up on my end. I apologize. Thanks for all your help guys.

but if, as you stated in the other thread, you just want something "pretty" then you don't need it necessarily to be as strong as the Budbuilt plates look.

 

yep, the budbuilt skid is dang near indestructible and weighs a lot! I would'nt recommend it to anyone running stock front suspension.

My vote is to keep your stock plate, modify it to fit, and if you want, throw on a fresh coat of paint.

 

His stock plate does fit -- all he had done was a body lift and suspension lift, which would leave his skid plate uneffected, though more visible.

i'm not looking forward to taking that sucker off for an oil change. when i do tho ill drill an oil drain hole for next time.

 

That's what I did before I installed mine. I drilled a 2 3/8" hole directly under the drain plug. Shouldn't be large enough to cause any hangups unless I'm driving over stalagmites.
