I Just finished me 2in BL today and got my new 33in destinations MT's on and i have yet to figure out the shifter. i was told that a 2 inch BL shouldnt involve any modifications to the shifter- hell, thats why i bought it. I took all the rubber boots off and it drives and stays in gear nicely. when i put the boots back on it wont stay in second gear. i already grinded down the metal bracket which clamps down on the boots but still no dice. Do i need all these boots on there or should i just go find some place to weld an extension onto my shifter? Also, how do you take just the shifter out of the top of the tranny? i had to undo those 4 bolts to remove the whole shifter housing, which isnt a big deal, but not easy to work on (ie welding). so how does just the shifter pull out?

 

As you found out, there are no "absolute" answers with body lifts and what sort of issues you may run in to. I had to do some shifter mods at 1", others do nothing at 2". It all depends on the exact vehicle, lift and even how the body, frame and drivetrain aligh to each other. However, it is usually an easy fix:

just stuff the bottom rubber boots all the way down, then flip the next rubber boot upside down so its like \/ rather then this /\ then put on your leather boot and you should be good to go, thats what I did when I just put in my RB 2" BL

 

also (another question i forgot) when we put the steering shaft extension on- i think it ended up a spline or 2 off from where it was as the wheel is not not straight when traveling straight. can i just pull the steering wheel off and move it over a few splines to compensate for the difference?

 

Should be fine either pulling the wheel (be sure and realign the turn signal cancel cam) or pull apart the shaft at the firewall and align it there.

 

My friend just bought a 1st gen with a 3 inch body lift. The shifter likes to hit the tranny shifter when in 2wd reverse. I'm not sure if it has an extension on it, but it doesn't matter because we are planning on removing the body lift.

I can't imagine that it doesn't have an extender with 3 inches of lift.
