Biggest Tire w/IFS

Biggest Tire w/IFS
What is the biggest tire i can run on IFS?
I currently run 33's, but would like to go bigger. I would like to go bigger than a 35 (I'm not worried about fender trimming or any other trimming in that maner). The trails I run are not to extreme (Minor rocks, creek passings, and afew mud holes). I have neard of people running 37's but I just want some other opinions.
If I can run bigger than a 35 what other MODS should be done (Steering....Etc....).

Many will tell you that the IFS will limit you to 35's max due to the pressure it puts on the IFS. CV angles are extreme with such a large tire.
Edit** Sorry to be a moron on that on...brain fart Lift not tire. I was in a hurry......you would have to have a pretty heft lift to fit such a large tire. One of those days

Yeah, CV angle has to do with the suspension, not the tire size.
Run whatever you want. Mild wheeling should be fine. Be prepared for breakage, though, especially steering. Not saying its a sure thing, but its a possibility, so be ready for it, have spares.
For steering you can either buy Total Chaos' steering system, which will run you right at 1200, or you can get it custom fabbed. Other than that, cut the fenders and do a Body lift. leave the front suspension as stock as possible. Don't crank the tbars or add anything, just put on the tires and raise the body to fit, either with a sawzall or a BL.

why do you need bigger tires if the trails you are running are not extreme?
as i always tell people: if i were going to build another early IFS rig to wheel, it would have 34x9.5 LTBs. the skinny tire helps preserve steering components and it still measures as big as some 35's

The bigger you go, the more reliability is gonna suffer. Generally, people don't have problems with 33's, some do OK and some break a lot with 35's, anyone I know who has ever run bigger has had problems - primarily with the steering as AxleIke mentioned.
But I echo the post above - it sounds like bigger tires aren't necessary on the trails you run. Especially since you're locked front/rear.
I had the 34x9.50 TSL (not LTB - those are 34x10.50) and they worked OK on my truck with no lift and MINOR trimming, but if the truck spends any time on the road, fugheddaboudit.
I doubt you will like the 4.88's with the bigger tires.

Well if I go bigger than 33's, I will be going with 5.29's. I'm trying to gain more clerance under my diffs/axles. I have removed the BL cause I really just don't like the look of them.
Thanks in advance...

Still don't see how clearance under the axles is an issue on the trails you describe... you can build the truck to the moon, all it's gonna do is take all the challenge (and therefore the fun) out of 'wheeling.

I must add, that I've had 35" BFG's on my 4runner for a while and I'm surprised at how well it's done. Other than replacing ball joints once, everything is really doing fine. I hopped that thing hard a couple times and was amazed the axles took it.
I definitely will not go larger, nor will I keep the IFS long term. The IFS is nice on the street though, which is where my truck spends 80% of it's time as a daily driver.

I've been running 4.30's with 34x9.50 TSL's on the trail on my ifs for about 6 months and all is well. I only get about 12 mpg on the highway with them. Since this is my daily driver, I have 30x9.50's that I swap on and off. I'll never regear.

488s are fine. i ran 373s with 37s one time. mmmm gotta love that burning smell....
sometimes going bigger wont make you more capable, beacuse you will sacrifice strength and break stuff and then get even more stuck on the trail. I like to stick with smaller tires and beat the heck out of everything and not break

well i have an 88 4runner with 33`s. *well not really anymore since my truck got stolen, and then found again without the tires and wheel" but i think im deffinitely going to cut the fenders and put 35`s on, i only have a 3 inch body lift but it has to be done
