Best diff mod for snow wheeling

I was wondering what i should buy as far as a locker or a limited slip. Im looking at the power tracs or the tru-track. I have a 94 yota, I want to put one of them up front in the IFS. I want the best results for snow wheeling not conseerned about mud or rocks. Also this truck is a D.D. so would the power tracs be a bad idea?

Personally, I have found that for snow, a limited slip or open differential are preferable to being fully locked up, at least on a streetable vehicle.

With a dedicated trail rig with great big bead locked tires, the locker is great, but with slightly less floatation, ls or open seem to work better.

With my rig, I tend to do much better in snow and ice with the lockers disengaged.

If you're gonna be in snow, selectable (ARB or elocker) is the ONLY way to go. On relatively level ground, lock up and have true 4WD. If it's offcamber AT ALL, leave it open and have the lateral stability provided by the wheel that's not spinning.

I don't think you should put any non-selectable locker in the front. If you want to run with one locker it should be in the rear. I have done very well in the snow with open diffs. I did a brief experiment welding (spool) the front diff on my IFS. I found that it didn't help at all in the snow traction wise. And it was scarrier to steer, so I went back to an open diff in the front.

Best locker for snow...??? It's 105 here today. Where the heck do you live?

I would also vote for selectable or limited slip. Full time would get sketchy.

I loved my old TrueTrac in the snow:

But now with ARBs on both ends, that makes a great snow setup. Leave them open about 95% of the time, then for deep snow, locking the front only works well and maybe 1% of the time I'll lock in the rear if needed.

best mod for snow is a great set of snowtires. 2nd best mod is some good weight in the back of your truck so those great snow tires get some decent bite. if those two options dont work out...then add a SELECTABLE locker. i've found being locked in the snow is more of a hinderance, then an aid.

I think it depends greatly on the type and depth of snow. My last snow wheeling experience was 3 feet of powder and 10psi AT's and locked front and rear was awesome. I was the only one of the group who had the traction to break through the snow.

Rear locker covers most traction issues. It's the 1st best mod for snow.
But having the front locked is tuff on steering but......you do have 4 wheels driving w/ lockers. A limited slip or selectable in front works well.
