I think I'm going to do the ball joint spacers on my truck which is stock right now. A friend of mine is looking to unload the 32x11.5 MT/Rs on his 85 4Runner with like 3.5/3.75in backspacing black steelies. I was thinking about buying these for my 91 truck but, I'm wondering if anyone has been running this setup and experienced any rubbing and how you resolved it?

One thing I think I understand but am not positive about is the compression travel with the BJ spacers. I think that the axle travels up to the stock point of full compression, but since it has been lifted 1.5" that's and additional 1.5" it has to compress so that's where the added travel is. I just want to make sure it does not compress 1.5" past the stock point.

It won't go past the stock travel points in the up direction as long as you don't remove or cut down your bump stops. It's the bump stops that determine your limits of travel. Now if you are using the BJ spacers to add 1.5 inches of lift then its possible you won’t be stuffing your wheel as far up as before. Whether or not you do depends on your t-bar adjustment, weight, speed …etc. Now in the down direction you will gain an extra 1.5 inches of travel.

 

I am thinking of adding the ball joint spacers as well. If I install the spacers and then set the torsion bars back to the original ride height, what does that do to my travel up and down? I understand at the stock ride height that my ride should be softer, and in addition to new shocks i hope the ride on the trail will improve. Are there any reasons I should NOT lower the ride height back to stock after the spacer install?

 

In the up direction, nothing. Its the lower bump stops that determine the amount of travel in the up direction and the BJ spacers don't change the distance from the wheel to the lower control arm. I don't know how many different ways to say that. Reread my last post. Down you will have an extra 1.5 inches because its the upper bumpstops that determine the downward travel and the BJ spacers lower the wheel away from the upper control arm.

You have it right there. I can't think of any reason NOT to lower it back down to stock height, unless of coarse you are wanting a little more height.

 

I run 33's with no ball joint spacer, I just crank about 1.5 in into my downey t-bars. I dont get any rubing. I was running 32s stock with no rub

My Avatar shows one with 33x12.50's if that helps. I'll try to post some better pictures. I know there are alot of members running the BJ spacers and some are running 32's. I am sure someone can post a picture for you.

 

What did you have to do to fit the 33s? You got them in there with just a BJ spacer?

 

I used the SDORI 1.5" BJ Spacers, a slight crank on the T-Bars, OME N72F & N98 Shocks, OME 901HD Rear Springs, OME SD33 Steering Stabilizer. I also used the SW 26mm T-bars but that is not needed unless you plan on putting a heavy bumper and winch on. Some people have to flatten the pinch weld on the inside of the fender. I did not have to. It is very easy with a BFH. Here is a link with the different kits we sell.

I was wondering why you use coil spacers with longer coils... Isn't there any brand that do custom sized coils? Here there is a brand of coils (Mines are), Mabilsa, and you can order for example, the same coil as mine but 2'' longer, or with the wire oversized...

Hey strap22, nice looking rig, do you have any bigger pic of your truck? I just want to see how much the tires stick out of the fenders. I have 31's and fender flares but with my wheels they're near stick out. I want to see this because here it's mandatory that the wheel is covered and not stick out.

Here are a couple of photos. These are 33x12.5's. If you use 33x10.5's you should be good to go.

As for the Coil spacers it is just an option for people that may want to keep their stock springs and use the spacers to lift the back up. Several customers have done both. I beleive it is individual preferrence. I only used the 901HD Coils to start with, but now I am planning on adding the spacer just because I want alittle more lift, and I may change to 35's.
