Add-A-Leaf Installation

Hey guys.

I have a 94 2WD pickup, and i bought an add-a-leaf kit off someone. Problem is, they didn't send instructions.

It looks like all the leafs are enclosed by a box welded on.

So my question is, how do I go about putting on this add-a-leaf?

It's hard to explain since i have hardly any experiance with suspension.

It's like, theres a little metal enclosure packing the leafs tightly together, how they should be. But theres no room to put in another leaf without taking this little box/enclosure thing off. But I cant find a way to get this off. Theres a little place where a bolt should be but there isn't one. So i just can't figure out how to get this thing off.

I did my add-a-leaf in my 4x4. I don't recall seeing any kind of "box" on the leaf springs.

I did these steps:

1. Block front wheels
2. lift and support truck by the frame and let suspension hang freely
3. remove tires
4. unhook e-brake cable at each brake drum
5. remove ubolts ( I had to torch mine off) *I did everything from now on one side at a time *
6. Let axle hang down ( you will need to jack up the axle since you are spring under axle) use a punch and hammer to remove old center pin
7. put add-a-leaf in
8. clamp leafs together to ease instalation
9. put new center pin in
10. line axle/leafs up and install new u-bolts
11. hook e-brake back up
12. put wheel(s) back on

Repeat steps 5-10 for the other side.

I could get to the center pin no problem if this thing wasn't covering it. Hmm.

If I am not mistaken the "box" you are refering to is a shipping add on. It is there to hold the spring pack together durring shipping and handling. The hole you see is to put in a new center pin (looks like a long bolt, may be threaded all the way) The way to take off the "box" is to clamp the spring pack together with some sturdy clamps and cut it off with some tin snips. Be carefull the spring pack is under tension!!! Follow Jay351's install instructions. Good luck
