2nd Gen body height with SAS

Hello,

I'd like to see some numbers... I'm still earning money for my future SAS. I've the axle already but I'm doubting about which tires and leaves use, and I need to decide to begin buying the gears and so...

As my 4Runner is my DD and only truck, and here in Europe, specially in big cities like Barcelona we have small parkings, I don't want my truck being more than 2 meters tall when SASed.

This is why I call for your help. Can you post wich leaves (3'', 4'', 5''...) you've and wich tire size (I'm planning 33's or 35's), if you've a BL and wich is the height at the higher point of your 4Runner's body (Usually the back) please?

With my actual setup my truck measures 184cm <72.44''> (+5cm <2''> of the bars) so I've 16cm <6.30''> remaining for leaves+tires...

Thank you a lot,

David

soon as I get mine back I'll post the stats and pictures of it. We have had bad weather here so the progress has been slower than anticipated.

Wow, so Mike's truck is aproximately 190.5cm and jsnby's is 193cm.

I cannot understand why only 5cm of height (Compared to mine, 3'' aprox + 31's) make so much difference...

Thanks for the numbers! Any more?

Again, for the sake of universal reference as discussed earlier, we are all about 20" rim to fender with 15" rims and stock fenders.

I am fullwidth, so I run 37's. The rest are split between 33's and 35's.

Yeah, but yours probably won't fit in a parking garage either... LOL

(despite being one of the lowest SAS rigs I've seen)

Search for my buildup and I have all the info there.

From floor to the roof rack side rails it's 80 inches.

Also check out the 4Mogger thread. He wanted to run 40's AND fit in his garage... He made it work with an air suspension and auto inflating/deflating tires (like on the original Hummer)

My truck fits in a 7' parking garage. Not sure the exact measurement, but it does fit.

The Mogger truck is HUGE, the air does well for it, but that is a big truck.

To rehash the normal stuff, you get height from springs, shackles and the hanger, assuming a pretty traditional leaf sprung, spring over swap.

Running 3" springs gets less height, but you sacrifice travel.

Running 5" springs gets too much height for most, but gains vertical uptravel.

As a result, most people run 4".

FROR is the lowest profile hanger I have seen, but there is only so much height you can take out there.

Shackles that are shorter seem to drive better but can limit long springs from working.

Thanks Steve, I've been re-reading your build-up.

Makes me want soo much I've the money earned to begin cutting IFS...

Thanks again Flyg for your input. I don't want a very very low SAS because I'm not sure about the diff and the TD engine oil pan... I think I'll end with 4'' front and 5'' rear or something like that. The 3.0TD engine is heavier than a V6 too so...

What will you have to do to get it certified/licensed in Spain?

We have things so much easier over here! LOL

Basically is all translated into paying.

We must pay an engineer to elaborate a truck mods project, where it sais it's safe to drive detailing all the mods you've done (Bigger tires, wider stance, fender flares, coils...), then a certified lab approves the project as is or requires mods (I had to put a bar under the rear bumper, I took off later to be inspected) and once you've an approved certificate you go to the tech inspection where they look if the mods you've are the ones in the certificate and if sizes and so are correct. The engineer not use to see your truck, only specific pics in the project.

A project for legalizing a truck like mine is now is between 400 and 600$. With the SAS I expect to pay near 700$ only for the legalization...

I have expensive dreams...

Molly's truck happens to be in my garage at the moment:

77" from ground to top at the very back. Admittedly her roof has been "reshaped" a little.

I believe her rear setup is LC coils with the factory links on 35's. Flexes REALLY well, but could be more stable - I think longer links (like Flyg's) would help A LOT.

Perfect, only a pair of you are over 2m height. I'm almost decided to put 35's.

The only concern I've is that maybe the engineer makes me widen the footprint and I don't want my tires sticking out of my fender flares because I'd have to mod them to cover them and it's not nice...

Someone have a side pic of 12.5'' wide tires and can say me the width and BS of the wheels (s)he's running?
