Tundra Transmissions???

A guy I know bought a used 01' tundra with 16 K miles on it from a local dodge dealer. It now has 65K and the transmission wont shift up or down half the time and the dodge dealer said he needs a new transmission. Is this just a lemon tranny, one out of a million or seeming to be a problem?

Those trannies are quite reliable...anything is obviously possible, and the question that pops into my mind is how the 16K mileage and the latter years where used? Towing, stop and go traffic, and dirty tranny fluid are all contributors to a failing transmission. To answer your question, if the fluid is changed as recommend per manufactor, and not a whole lot of towing was done, then it is not normal for it to go out.
