Question Thinking of buying a Tundra

I was thinking of buying a 00-02 Tundra 4x4 V8 and getting rid of my Mustang. The reason is I would like to make my 88 4Runner into a trail rig and have something to tow it with. Does anyone tow with thier Tundra? Does it have enough balls to do it? I would eventally like to tow it with a trailer but for now it would probably be a tow dollie.

The other question is... Has anyone had any problems with thier Tundra? I also have a 02 Tacoma that has 66,000 miles on it and I have had no problems at all.

I towed my '85 4Runner from SC to Tellico & back for the SE4RJ3 in my '06 Tundra V-8. I had zero problems with it, even though the trailer had no brakes, the Tundra pulled & braked like a champ...

A Tundra should tow your 4Runner just fine. Overall the Tundras are pretty much problem-free, but they have been known for balljoint problems. Nothing major, but its an issue.

You have to think though...the same type of car may have a problem with one person, but not with another. Common problems like the said ball joint problem may or may not happen to you. It all depends on how you treat your vehicles, or the tempermate of the car.

Maybe, but Toyota did issue a recall on the balljoints last year. Apparentely the lower joint is known for wear-out sooner than the top one.

I asked a Toyota parts guy and he had said there was a recall on the ball joints.

Thanks for the help. Maybe next month I will be posting pics of my new to me Tundra

Are they any good on the trails though? I am considering either a Tacoma or a Tundra...
