...and I still say they (and all the automakers that are phasing out manual trans in anything but the stripped down small engine models, if that) are making a huge mistake. That is the very reason I haven't bought a new Toyota.

There has never been a manual behind a 4.7L in the US market but there are in other foreign markets such as Australia in base model Land Cruisers. Also isn't it true that the 4.7L Tundra uses the same auto as the 3.4L 4runner? If so then an R150 manual out of a Tacoma/4Runner should bolt up to a 4.7 and given that the R150 series is strong enough for the older Turbo Supra's I'd think it would handle the smallish 4.7L V8...

One last question. I saw a truck at SEMA that was a Tundra "work truck" I think it had a 4.7L and maybe a 5-speed. It was a 2WD though. It was really cool and had tool boxes and steel rims etc. everything a contractor needs and nothing more. I snapped a pic of it, I'll try to post it tomorrow.

I agree, and that is the exact reason if *gasp* I had to buy a new vehicle I would probably get the 05 Xterra with off-road package. A VQ engine with a short-shifted 6-speed manual? Nice!

the transmission is the same, but i dont know if the bellhousings and bolt patterns are.

toyota does have 6 speed tundras available, but they are only v6 and only 2wd.

my dad is considering buying one, he definitely wants a manual though. so, we may have to do a swap!!! (well documented of course)
