Sequoia Engine using oil!

I have a 2005 Sequoia that I change the oil in every 5000 miles. I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5W30. This car uses about a quart of oil every 4000 miles. It has no leaks and only has 18000 miles on it...it is still under warranty.

Anyway the factory manual says it is not unusual for the engine to use 1 quart every 1000 miles. TO ME IT IS! I have never had a vehicle that used oil like this one does. My 4Runner is always still topped out when I change it at 5000 miles. And I have a Jeep CJ-7 that has 125K miles on it and uses no noticeable amount of oil.

What do you guys and gals think...is this acceptable to you?

I agree it seems like a bit much but it is within the factory specs I believe. It sucks but that is the way it is. wouldn't be surprised if the dealer tells you they can't do anything about it. However, It wouldn't be a bad I dea to go down to them and have them check it out. This way, you get you r name in the book so if anything major happens they have it on record that you did make an effort to get the problem fixed.

Hmmm...a full qt after 5000 miles? I change my oil at 7500 intervals using Mobil 1 and at that point it's about 1/2 a qt from full.
Maybe yours just likes the taste of oil more than other 4.7's.

Yeah and it prefers the expensive stuff.

I am going to check it every 1000 miles and see what it reads.

Well there are no technical service bulletins or recalls involving oil consumption at least. I would just listen to the poster a few up and bring it to the dealer just to have it on record that you had it examined incase something serious goes wrong.

Try a different synthetic oil. Mobil 1 tends to dissapear in alot of different vehicles. Doesnt really matter what you go to just try a different name brand a change or 2 and see if your consumption goes down.
