New 2008 Tundra and Tacoma Reviews

Been lurking YotaTech for years, and could have sworn I had a userID, but guess not! Anyway, just wanted to let you all know that I'm a hardcore Toyota guy (have an 85 4runner rockcrawler) and a freelance automotive journalist.

Just reviewed the new 08 Tundra and Tacoma for an online mag. In short, unreal trucks, especially the new Tundra! Thought you guys would be interested in checking it out.

Well, better late than never. Welcome, Kurt (just saw your post). Thoroughly enjoyed your reviews, you 'get it'. Looking forward to more...like the upcoming Hino diesel powered Tundra HD.

The new Tundras impressed me until I drove an '05 5.4 F-150, which is actually still a true truck (boxed frame, etc...) However, the newest gen Tacoma has been by far my favorite Toyota pickup since early 95. Either way, good reporting seeing as you seem about as biased as they come

No doubt Ford makes great trucks, and they're pushing the 'fully boxed frame' heavily in their ads. But, isn't it a stretch to call a vehicle with partial or full C-channel rails something other than a 'real truck'? Maybe materials, cross-member count, design, weld methods and other things more than compensate for overall strength. Tundra tow rating is right there with other gas powered trucks, indicating no lack of frame strength or pulling power.
