klunking tundra

I've got a 2000 tundra automatic, 4wd, with 48,000 miles on it. I bought it 18 months ago from a dealer with 24,000. Since day one it shifts hard at low RPM (such as stop and go traffic) when going into 2nd and 3rd. 3rd is the worst and is noticeable enough that my wife commented. When accelerating at higher RPM it shifts very smooth. Also, when I come to a full, rapid stop, such as stopping at exit ramps, there is a klunk when I let off the brake. can't tell if it's the brakes or something in the transmission.

thanks for your comments.

Sounds like axle wrap. Normal for a pickup truck.
If you do a search on axle wrap you'll see that you're not the only one with the problem. You'll also find a few suggestions to fixing it as well.

I don't think axle wrap causes the "Tundra Klunk" when stopping. Try lubing the driveshaft and see if it continues...
