I know this is a dumb question, but which side of the Tundra V8 is bank one?

My first attempt at replacing a O2 sensor.

Code check says, "heated O2 malfunction" or something like that.

And then, "bank one, first sensor" I think it was.

And where is this located?

Actually according ot my manual, bank 1 is just underneath the exhaust manifolds, both driver's and passenger side are listed as bank 1.

 

Hey Mark ,watcha doin over here? The V8 Tundra has 4 O2 sensors . Bank 1 is drivers side , I think ? I can let you know for sure on monday. Check with the dealer it may still be covered .

I'll delete my other posts to avoid confusion. I wasn't paying attention and figured it was like the 4Runner. I didn't notice what forum we were in.

If it is numbered like every other V type engine, it is the bank that is slightly forward of the other one. Since pistons on V type engines can't be directly opposite, they are shifted slightly (about the thickness of a connecting rod to be exact). The first bak is the one with the furthest forward cylinder which, ironically, is usually #1. Go figure.

 

Bank 1 refers to a particular side of the engine and the OBD code should have also spelled out a sensor as well (like bank 1, sensor 2). The sensor number refers to the forward or rear sensor (sensor 1 = forward, sensor 2 = rear or further down the exhaust). Bank 1 on any car with multiple banks (ie any V type motor) is usally on the right side as you face the engine or whatever side plug #1 is (also usually drivers side of the truck). Some may vary but hat is what is typical anyway.

If you have a V8 the sensor should be very close to the exhaust manifolds.
