2003 Tundra rear end noises

Ok this had me stumped for a couple of weeks. I hear a thump thump noise in between 30 and 20 miles an hour only when slowing down
(no brakeing). Sounds like a loose rim or bad u-joints right. Well I've came to the conclusion it's in the rear end. I've never tore into a rear end. So im looking for advise! Can't afford to have a pro do it. So I'm gonna give it a try. I been working on cars over twenty years so im pretty sure i got this. Any and all in put would be useful. Or maybe a diagram or link on Toyota tundra rear end repair. Im calling on a you hardcore Toyota lovers! HELP

Did you get it fixed? I had my 2003 Tundra rear end pumpkin replaced at the deal and it cost almost $2000.

No, but I found the same high rices you paid. I plan on pulling it myself and then haing someone rebuild it if it needs it. My son, who is a diesel mechanic thinks it may only need to have the backlash and pinion depth adjusted. Mine does not make any noises, just a large thump after coasting or going from forward to reverse and vice versa.

That's good news as my truck's rear end looked like a bag of rocks fell out when they pulled it out.

Take it back to the shop that did it and have them fix what you paid them to do or get your money back. Like others previous, could be the rear diff or the u-joints at the driveshafts. Assuming your case doesn't have issues with your rear brakes. My thoughts.
